Claire Barber

Claire Barber is a contributing writer for Field & Stream based in Colorado. She writes about conservation and the outdoor industry. She’s an avid adventurer in the mountains despite growing up in South Florida. She does a lot of goofy things outside and once ate a slimy grub to earn a free pizza.

Highlights

Covers conservation, cool wildlife stories, and untraditional characters in the outdoor world.

Education

Claire Barber holds a BA in Environmental Studies with minors in Journalism and Film from Colorado College. She earned the Senior Academic Award for Environmental Studies in 2022.

Experience

Barber has been writing about the outdoors and the environment since 2020. Her bylines include Outside Magazine, Field Magazine, SKI Magazine, Springs Magazine, Denver Westword, and more. Aside from her writing, Barber has worked outside season after season, from ski instructing in New Mexico to trail maintenance for the Bureau of Land Management and Arizona Conservation Corps.

While writing is her bread and butter, you can also find her working for documentary crews across the west. Most recently, she hunkered down with wolf biologists in Yellowstone National Park to capture the nuanced world of wolf management.

Favorite Outdoor Hobbies

Claire is an expert skier and eager adventurer. She dabbles in a lot of activities, so you might find her learning to cast a fly rod or attempting to walk a high line. The Blue Ridge Mountains and Dolly’s Dairy Bar in Brevard, North Carolina were her favorite places to romp as a kid. Now, you’ll find her drawn to the purply sunsets of the American Southwest.
