Field and Stream has had several iconic fishing editors in its 100-plus-year history, but none compare to Albert J. McClane—known as A.J. to readers and, simply, Al to his friends—who held the title from 1947 to 1975. A member of the fishing Hall of Fame, McClane wet a line in 140 countries and taught millions how to fish in the pages of F&S, where he wrote with a style all his own. A fishing hat with this much style couldn't have been named after anyone else.
